The Florida Mermaid Collection

I am painting a series called The Florida Mermaid Collection and this is Mable. Siesta Key has always been a special place to me and I consider it to be one of my favorite Florida beaches. 

 

My Inspiration

I grew up on the east coast of Florida, so I didn't visit Siesta Key for the first time until I was a teenager. The reason why I first visited Siesta Key was because my art teacher told me about The Ringling College of Art and Design. 

I visited the campus for a tour and during our trip to Sarasota, we also visited The Ringling Museum. That is where I learned about John & Mable Ringling. Walking around the Ca’ d’Zan, their opulent home, inspired me to dream big. I fell in love with their story, their vision and it was during this trip that I decided I would pursue a creative career. 

Siesta Key Sunsets

I always had a camera with me when I went on trips and it was during this trip that I photographed my first Siesta Key Sunset. Watching the sun set over the Gulf coast of Mexico was a magical experience, one that I never forgot. 

I started my photography business in my early twenties - chasing sunsets like the one I photographed in Siesta Key. I drive all over Florida photographing families on the beach at sunset and still Siesta Key remains my favorite place to sit and watch the sun melt into the sky.

Mable the Mermaid

Mable the Mermaid calls the waters of Siesta Key home, where sunsets melt into golden hour and inspiration drifts with the tide. A collector at heart, she gathers sea shells and lost art treasures, curating an underwater gallery filled with beauty, stories, and wonder. When she’s not arranging her ocean finds, Mable floats quietly, watching the sky glow and the sea shimmer - a gentle reminder that art, like the ocean, is meant to be discovered and cherished.
